Electrical Drafter/Designer


Job Description

Garner & Associates Engineering has an opening for Electrical Drafter/Designer with our Montgomery and/or Tuscaloosa, Alabama offices. Drafter responsibilities include gathering drawings and specifications, calculating material and equipment requirements, drawing production with AutoCAD and REVIT software.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge/experience with AutoCAD and REVIT software. 
  • Proven work experience as a Drafter, or similar role.
  • Good math skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work efficiently in an organized manner, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills.
  • BS in Engineering or degree from a technical college

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

  • Assist electrical engineer on designing power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, and telecommunication systems including safety and security, audio/visual, intercom, PA, etc.
  • Create detailed designs with AutoCAD and REVIT software.
  • Prepare and review rough sketches and review them along with the engineering team.
  • Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality.
  • Ensure final designs comply with regulations, codes, and quality standards.
  • Local job site travel as needed per project.

Electrical Engineer (Pre-Licensed/Licensed)

 

Job Description

Garner & Associates Engineering has an opening for Electrical Engineer, licensed or working toward a license, with our Montgomery and/or Tuscaloosa, Alabama offices.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • BS Engineering degree working toward Professional Engineer License, or a Licensed Engineer in the State of Alabama or be able to obtain license through reciprocity within three months.
  • Working knowledge of electrical power, lighting, communications, and fire alarm system design.
  • Must have experience designing electrical systems and producing design documents for listed project types in AutoCAD, and Revit or the ability to learn Revit. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with initiative and the ability to work in an organized manner and meet deadlines for projects.    
  • Federal Government Security Clearance preferred but not required. You must be able to attain this clearance if required

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Duties will include design, drawing production, specification writing, discipline coordination between the various trades, shop drawing and submittal reviews, construction site reviews, and code reviews for MEP systems.
  • Focus will be on the electrical systems for buildings; however, this position may also include coordination other building systems and the construction process in the various engineering disciplines practiced: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, commissioning, and construction services.
  • The work may include base building and tenant interior systems on commercial, retail, mixed-use, residential, hotel, transportation, education, and various other types of projects.
  • Duties may also include the review of MEP systems designed by others, interface with code officials and contractors, working with architects and other clients.
  • The Electrical Engineer will also assist with the design and specification of power and control systems, system layouts, load calculations, equipment sizing and selection.
  • Local job site travel as needed per project..
